FCA Recalls More Than 200,000 2016-2018 Ram Trucks Over Transmission Issue

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/02/fca-r ... ion-issue/

A number of Ram pickup trucks must be taken back to the dealers to fix an issue concerning their transmission.

In the initial information released by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Ram’s parent company, it’s said that, in certain vehicles, occupants can inadvertently shift the gear selector out of ‘park’.

This can happen without stepping on the brake pedal, as it should, nd in some cases, there even’t doesn’t have to be a key in the ignition to do so, thus increasing the risk of a rollaway if the parking brake hasn’t been fully engaged.

“An FCA US investigation discovered the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) may overheat on certain vehicles equipped with steering column gear-shifters. This condition has been linked to protracted brake-pedal application while vehicles idle in ‘park'”, said FCA.

An estimated 180,975 trucks are included in this safety campaign in the United States alone. Additionally, another 42,045 units are found in Canada, 4,066 in Mexico, and 1,422 outside the NAFTA region.

The list is quite long, and includes certain 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, 2017-2018 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs, 2016-2017 3500 chassis cabs with gross weight of less than 10,000lbs (4,536kg), and 2017-2018 1500.

The automotive giant advises owners “to follow the recommended operating instructions in their owners’ manuals”, or in plain English, always make sure they have engaged the parking brake before leaving their vehicle.

FCA will start notifying owners of the affected trucks in the near future, advising them when they may bring their trucks in for repairs.

Toyota’s Recalling 74,000 Units Of The Tundra And Sequoia In The United States

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/02/toyot ... ed-states/

Toyota has announced two recalls related to some of the body-on-frame trucks it sells in the United States.

The larger of the two concerns the 2018 Tundra pickup and Sequoia sport-utility vehicle. The problem lies with the vehicle’s electronic control systems, which may incorrectly place the vehicle in diagnostic function and disable the stability control system.

Since that can potentially increase the possibility of a crash, the owners of some 65,000 Tundras and Sequoias are being notified to bring their vehicles into their local dealers to have their software updated.

A smaller recall has also been issued for certain 2017 Tundras with second-row seating, which refers to the Double Cab and CrewMax configurations. On these vehicles, the bolts securing the left rear seat may not have been properly fastened, so dealer technicians are being instructed to inspect and tighten them on an estimated 8,800 trucks.

Though the Sequoia, with little over 12,000 units sold last year, is hardly a big seller for Toyota, the Tundra is, as last year the automaker sold over 116,000 examples of its pickup in the United States. That puts the big truck ahead of the Sienna and just behind the 4Runner in Toyota’s truck sales chart, but far away from the nearly 200,000 Tacomas Toyota shifted in the States in 2017.

Both pickups were far outsold by the RAV4 (400,000+ units) and the Highlander (215k units) that contributed to 1.1 million trucks, sport-utes, crossovers and minivans that Toyota sold in America last year.

That’s more than the 910,000 passenger cars it moved last year, and far more than the 104k upscale Lexus models it delivered over the same period. So, SUVs and pickup trucks still reign supreme in the second largest market in the world, and unless there’s a sudden spike in oil prices, we can’t see this changing any time soon.

Recall după ce Volkswagen a fost prinsă că manipulează testele de emisii: aproape 1.500 de unități VW Touareg din România vor fi chemate în service pentru actualizarea softului

http://www.automarket.ro/stiri/recall-d ... 82933.html

Mitsubishi recalls 233,000 vehicles

https://thewest.com.au/lifestyle/motori ... b88753537z

Mitsubishi has issued a massive recall affecting more than 233,000 vehicles Australia-wide.

Split over four separate recall notices, the issues range from cars potentially rolling away when the park brake is on, to sun roofs detaching while driving.

Affected models include the Outlander medium SUV, ASX small SUV and Lancer small car. Some vehicles may be affected by more than one of the recalls.

The biggest of the four notices affects 105,064 cars, which have an engine auto tensioner flange which may crack under high load driving conditions and may cause the drive-belt to fall off.

According to the recall notice, if the drive belt falls off the “engine warning light will illuminate, a loss of power steering assistance will occur, the battery will discharge and the engine may overheat and stall”.

This affects ASXs built between 2011-2012 and Lancers and Outlanders built between 2008 and 2012.

Another notice recalls 70,795 cars, with the 2013-2015.5 model year ASX and 2013-2016 Outlander affected. These cars could roll away even with the parking brake engaged, due to improper sealing possibly allowing water to get and rust the brake, causing the brake shaft to possibly stick.

More than 53,900 2011-2015.5 model year ASXs have windscreen wipers which may stop working due to water entering between the windshield and bonnet and corroding the wiper link ball joint.

Nearly 4000 Lancers (2008-2010) and Outlanders (2007-2010) have sunroofs which could detach while driving, thanks to the resin material used not being a strong enough adhesive.

Mitsubishi says there have been no instances of the problems occurring in Australia or overseas and is confident its dealer and servicing network will be able to handle the influx of vehicles needing fixes.

It says the fixes will take from as little as 30 minutes for the wiper issue and up to two hours for the parking brake issue.

Mitsubishi will contact affected owners by mail, but concerned customers can phone the company on 1800 931 811 or their preferred dealer on 1300 131 211.

Owners can also visit here to enter their vehicle’s VIN to see if it is affected.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia recalls the Outlander, ASX, Lancer and Pajero Exceed – about 5,000 units affected

https://paultan.org/2018/02/22/mitsubis ... ro-exceed/

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced a recall campaign for imported units of the Lancer and Outlander, as well as the locally-assembled ASX.

According to MMM, about 5,000 vehicles may be equipped with a faulty engine control relay. The relay serves to protect the engine’s ECU from any sudden surge of voltage, and if it fails, the engine’s ECU function may be affected.

For the ASX, affected units are manufactured between March 2015 and November 2016. Meanwhile, Lancers made between December 2014 and February 2016, along with Outlanders produced between December 2015 and June 2016 are also listed as affected units.

The recall campaign also includes 115 units of the Pajero Exceed, which may be equipped with potentially defective Takata passenger side airbag inflators. Affected units are manufactured between March 2010 and July 2012.

MMM will issue notification letters to all affected owners, and the full cost of the replacement will be borne by the company. Customers are advised to check if their vehicles are among those affected, and to make an appointment at any Mitsubishi authorised service centre for a replacement.

A dedicated page on MMM’s website allows customers to check if their vehicle is affected by any recall by keying in their vehicle’s VIN.

Another 160k Mitsubishi Outlander Sports Recalled In America

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/02/anoth ... d-america/

Considering how relatively few vehicles Mitsubishi sells each year in the United States, it sure has been recalling a lot of them lately. And a lot of those, in turn, have come down to the Outlander Sport.

Earlier this month, the Japanese automaker announced the recall of 140,000 Lancers, Outlanders, and Outlander Sports for detaching drive belts. Then it recalled another 170,000 Outlanders and Outlander Sports for problems with their parking brakes (along with 56k Lacers for detaching sunroofs).

Now it’s recalling yet another nearly 160,000 vehicles in the US – all of them Outlander Sports from the 2011-16 model years.

The problem here comes down to water leaking in between the hood and windshield, causing the wiper link to corrode and separate. Since that could reduce visibility when driving and increase the risk of a crash, Mitsu’s calling those crossovers into dealers across America to have their wiper-link rods and motor crank arms replaced. No word on patching up the leak itself, but the process to replace the corroding components is set to kick off in April.

The 158,651 vehicles being recalled dwarfs the 103,686 total vehicles that Mitsubishi sold in America last year – which itself marked a ten-year high for the automaker. The Outlander Sport remains one of the company’s top sellers in one of its largest markets, accounting for 33,160 units, or nearly a third of its overall sales in the US throughout 2017. At 35,310 units, only the larger Outlander outsold the smaller Sport model in question, each nearly matching the sales of the Mirage and Lancer combined.

Steering wheel 'separation' prompts Hyundai Santa Fe recall

https://www.leftlanenews.com/steering-w ... 99992.html

A supplier's botched production run can cause the steering wheel hub to break, allowing the wheel to detach from the steering column.

Hyundai has issued another recall for the 2018 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport, addressing a problem with the steering wheel hub assembly.

The company received a field report in November claiming a steering wheel separated from the steering column in a Santa Fe Sport. A second incident in Korea prompted a deeper investigation, eventually tracking the problem to a batch of hubs that had been damaged during manufacturing.

"To date, Hyundai is aware of only two incidents alleging the subject condition," the company wrote in its regulatory filings. "Hyundai is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition."

Service technicians will be instructed to inspect the lot numbers on steering wheel assemblies and replace defective components.

The 2018 and Santa Fe Sport is subject to two other recalls, one related to front coil spring fractures and another involving side curtain airbags.

Holden To Recall 333,000 Vehicles With Faulty Takata Airbag Inflators

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/03/holde ... inflators/

Holden will recall approximately 333,000 vehicles in Australia due to potentially faulty Takata airbag inflators.

The vehicles impacted by this latest recall vary and start with the Holden Astra from the 2005-2009 model years. Other Holden-badged vehicles included in the recall are the 2014-2017 MY Astra, 2013-2018 Trax, 2012-2018 Barina, 2010-2016 Cruze and 2015-2017 Holden Cascada.

A number of other vehicles previously sold in Australia by General Motors are also affected. These include the 2014 Opel Cascada, 2014 Opel Mokka, 2013 Opel Zafira, 2012-2013 Opel Astra, 2006-2011 Saab 9-3 and 2006-2011 Saab 9-5.

In a statement, Holden said that it will contact customers who own vehicles with the faulty airbag inflators.

“We are developing our plan in response to the recall. The recall notice calls for a progressive series of recalls, and our plan will reflect this. Holden will contact customers directly at an appropriate time if their car is being recalled”, they said.

This wide-reaching recalls come just five months after Holden attempted to avoid being forced to recall vehicles with Takata inflators. In a request submitted to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Holden asserted that internal tests it conducted found the inflators to be safe. Holden also claimed that it may not have had the ability to replace the airbags due to the difficulties suppliers could have faced to meet demand.

Mitsubishi recalls almost 40,000 cars in Russia

http://www.akm.ru/eng/news/2018/march/02/ns5972595.htm

Mitsubishi is recalling almost 40,000 cars in Russia, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology informed.

5,493 Mitsubishi ASX cars and 33,406 Mitsubishis Outlander cars sold in the period from February 2015 to June 2017 will be recalled.

The reason for recalling is the possible malfunction of the internal combustion engine control unit relay, as well as the fan relay (for ASX cars) and the windscreen heating relay (for Outlander cars). As a result, the internal combustion engine flame out and cannot be restarted.

The company will replace defective components on the motor vehicles free of charge for their owners.

Karma Revero Recalled By The NHTSA Over Faulty Side Airbags

We don’t hear much about the Karma these days. Not from Fisker, certainly, and not much from Karma Automotive, either. But we have just received word from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The government agency has announced the recall of nearly a hundred of the luxury plug-in hybrids, now known as the Karma Revero, due to an issue with its airbags.

More specifically, the side curtain airbags could detach from their inflators. That could prevent them from deploying properly in the event of a crash, thereby failing to comply with the “ejection mitigation” section of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

The problematic units, unsurprisingly, come from Takata. However, the issue ostensibly has nothing to do with the unexpectedly detonating inflators that have triggered the largest automotive recall in history and driven Takata into bankruptcy.

To fix this issue, Karma Automotive is asking 94 owners to bring their Reveros in to their local dealers to have new units installed with an additional clamp in place to secure the inflator. The process is set to kick off on April 17.

China’s Wanxiang Group launched Karma Automotive and the reborn Karma Revero after acquiring the assets of the defunct Fisker Automotive for nearly $150 million in 2014. The vehicle was initially launched in 2011 as the Fisker Karma and was developed by noted designer Henrik Fisker.

It packs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors to deliver a combined 403 horsepower, netting a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds and a 240-mile total driving range certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Airbags Might Not Deploy In A Crash

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/03/2011- ... loy-crash/

Hyundai has announced the recall of some 155,000 vehicles in the United States due to a problem with their basic safety systems.

The issue comes down to the airbag control unit, which could short circuit. If that happens, the front air bags, side air bags, and seat belt pretensioners could be disabled, keeping them from doing the essential job of keeping the vehicle’s occupants safe in the event of a crash.

The problem has prompted the South Korean automaker to recall an estimated 154,753 examples of the 2011 Sonata to have the issue addressed. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Admnistration, “the remedy for this recall is still under development.” However the campaign is expected to kick off on April 20.

Although model years and calendar years don’t directly match up, Hyundai sold 225,961 examples of the Sonata in the United States in 2011, and 196,623 the year before (when the 2011 model affected reached showrooms).

Those numbers represent a huge share of the 538,228 vehicles Hyundai sold overall in the US in 2010 and the 645,691 in 2011. The automaker reached its high point in 2016 when it sold 768,057 vehicles in the United States, rising from the ~400k sales figures it was reaching in the previous decade. Along with the Sonata, the smaller Elantra sedan and the larger Santa Fe crossover stand as some of the brand’s best sellers.

The model sold during the period addressed by the recall was the sixth-generation Sonata, introduced in 2009 and phased out in 2014. That’s when the current model arrived, ushering the mid-size sedan into its seventh iteration.
