Audi has been ordered to recall 127,000 of its latest Euro-6 diesel models after Germany's KBA automotive watchdog detected illicit emission-control software.

According to local publication, Bild am Sonntag, the 127,000 vehicles will be included in the ongoing voluntary recall of 850,000 V6 and V8 diesel vehicles announced in July.

The KBA hasn't publicized exactly how software used in the affected models skirted emissions regulations but informed Audi that it had to respond by February 2 on how it plans to update vehicle software controlling emissions, ensuring that the vehicles cannot manipulate emissions, Reuters reports.

The recall comes after months of examinations between Audi and the KBA to investigate any potential irregularities.

“As part of this systematic and detailed assessment, the KBA has now also issued a notice regarding Audi models with V6 TDI engines.

“The engine control software for the vehicles in question will be completely revised, tested and submitted to the KBA for approval,” Audi said.

These recalls are just the latest in the seemingly never-ending flurry of vehicles discovered with emissions cheating software in the years since Volkswagen's dieselgate scandal.

In June 2017, the German government alleged that Audi cheated on emissions tests for nearly 24,000 A7 and A8 models. This quickly resulted in a recall of said models.

Mitsubishi’s Recalling Another 227k Vehicles In The US

We thought it was a pretty big deal for Mitsubishi, relatively speaking, when it issued a recall for over 140,000 vehicles. But now the same manufacturer has issued another two recalls that amount to another 226,995 units.

The larger of the two affects certain Outlander and Outlander Sport crossovers. The problem here comes down to the actuator shaft for the parking brake, which could be prone to corrosion due to water leaking into the rear brake calipers. That could render the parking brake inoperable, leaving the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly.

To address the problem, Mitsubishi is asking the owners of certain 2014-16 Outlanders and 2013-16 Outlander Sports to bring their vehicles in to their local dealers. There technicians will inspect the rear brakes and replace certain components if necessary. That already amounts to an estimated 170,354 vehicles across the United States… but there’s more.

At the same time, the Japanese automaker is notifying the owners of various models to bring their vehicles in to have the sunroof glass assemblies. The sunroofs could detach while under way, posing a severe hazard to other vehicles on the road. Models affected include certain 2007-10 Outlander, 2008-10 Lancer, 2009-10 Lancer Evolution, and 2010 Lancer Sportback models.

That may seem like a wide array of models. But since that second recall only affects those models fitted with sunroofs, it only affects an estimated 56,641 vehicles in the US.

Combined with the previous recall issued just the other day, that brings the total number of vehicles being recalled up to 368,048. (That is, assuming none of the vehicles being recalled will have to be serviced for more than one issue at a time.) Either way, that’s a heck of a lot of vehicles being recalled by a manufacturer that sold just 103,686 units in America last year. And that marked a ten-year high.

With the scope of recalls ranging from 2006 through 2016, we’re looking at nearly half the 922,766 vehicles that Mitsubishi sold over the course of those eleven years.

Toyota is conducting two separate recalls in North America, involving over 22,000 vehicles from the 2015 to 2018MY.

The first one involves 11,800 units of the 2018 Camry, which have to be taken back to the dealers because of a potential assembly error.

According to the car manufacturer, the fuel pipes and hoses might not have been properly connected under the hood. In extreme scenarios, the fuel could leak and, in the presence of an ignition source, lead to a fire.

Owners of the affected Camrys will be notified by Toyota by late next month, via first class mail, advising them to schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer. Subsequently, technicians will inspect the fuel pipes and hoses, and properly connect them, if necessary, free of charge.

The second recall includes some 9,900 examples of the 2015-2018 Lexus RC F, 2016-2018 GS F, and 500 units of the 2018 LC. These are equipped with two high pressure fuel pumps and, over time, their covers could be damaged, possibly leading to a fuel leak, thus increasing the risk of fire.

Toyota will start notifying owners whose vehicles are included in this safety campaign in early April, and dealers will replace both high-pressure fuel pumps with improved ones, at no cost.
