Facelifted Mitsubishi L200 Pickup Getting Split Headlight Design

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/08/facel ... ht-design/

An updated version of Mitsubishi’s L200 pickup truck, also known as the Triton, has been spotted undergoing tests. The two double-cab prototypes were completely camouflaged, both outside and in.

Luckily, it doesn’t take much for anybody to notice just how different the front end is on these prototypes, compared to the trucks we’re already accustomed to. Also, to say that Mitsubishi grabbed a page out of both Hyundai’s as well as Citroen’s design book, would not be an overstatement.

A split headlight aesthetic

Even with the camouflage, the front end of the revised L200 kind of reminds us a lot of the Hyundai Santa Fe’s. It has a pair of very thin headlights, especially compared to the current L200, plus another set of lights right underneath, incorporated within the front spoiler and flanking the grille – just like on the Santa Fe, or the Kona, or various Citroen models, to a lesser extent.

We’re not suggesting there’s any connection between these models, but we can’t ignore the trend either. It’s definitely going to make the updated L200 stand out more than its “bulky-eyed” predecessor, which has a pair of really large headlights. Oh and the hood is different as well, obviously.

With the taillights, we can’t be sure about their overall shape, but height-wise, they do seem to occupy more room here than they do on the current truck. Thus, we expect a slightly altered rear end too.

Better tech is a given

Earlier this year, Mitsubishi gave the L200 standard Trailer Stability Assist, as well as the automaker’s Smartphone Link Display Audio infotainment system, which as the name suggests, offers smartphone integration, voice control and a few other things.

Whetherthe facelifted truck will also add the likes of new switchgear, a revised instrument cluster or more supportive seats, remains to be seen. What we can tell you is that the cabin is camouflaged for a reason, so changes are definitely coming, especially in the on-board tech department.

As for performance, in order for the truck’s current 3.5 tonne (7,716 lbs) towing capacity to go up, changes would probably need to occur as far as the engine and 4WD system are concerned. We’ll likely learn more about these details when Mitsubishi finally unveils the vehicle, which is likely to happen sometime next year.

Once the facelifted L200/Triton hits global markets, it will continue battling the likes of the VW Amarok, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Nissan Navara.

SPIED: 2019 Mitsubishi Triton facelift – debuting soon?

https://paultan.org/2018/09/03/spied-20 ... ting-soon/

The Mitsubishi Triton facelift has been spotted once again, following an appearance made in Tonsley, South Australia earlier this year. While completely wrapped in camouflage vinyl, these prototypes – photographed in Europe – clearly show the new Dynamic Shield front face with sleek new styling.

The revised fascia gets slimmer headlights (possibly LED projectors with LED DRLs) and grille, and below that are fog lamps and signal indicators that are pushed to the far edges of the lower bumper. The lower lip appears to be thicker as well, and the underside of the engine bay features the same black piece of protective material from the existing Triton.

It will ride on new set of redesigned wheels, and the rump also appears to be changed as well, with updated tail lights. The rest of the pick-up truck appears to be similar to today’s Triton, with the signature beltline crease that fades out in the middle of the body and the Triton’s trademark J-curve that divides cab and bed.

It’s not yet known if the facelifted Triton (known as the L200 in other markets) will come with an updated engine, but expect some changes to be done to the cabin. With this new face, the Triton will finally look more like the GR-HEV Concept that previewed this generation back in 2013. Like what you see? Comment, below

Mitsubishi Teases The Facelifted Triton / L200, Says It’s Coming Soon

https://www.carscoops.com/2018/09/mitsu ... ming-soon/

Mitsubishi is celebrating 40 years of truck production by releasing the first teaser image of the facelifted Triton / L200.

Noting the “future of the pickup will soon be revealed,” the teaser image suggests the upcoming Triton will have a have bold front fascia that mimics the eX concept.

Styling details are hard to make out, but the truck has a Dynamic Shield front end with slender headlights that appear to reside above some pretty sizable lower lighting units. We can also see an angular front bumper and a significant amount of chrome trim.

The grille itself appears relatively small, but it will have a prominent Mitsubishi badge in the center. We can also get a glimpse of the Triton’s wheels and center-mounted antenna.

While the teaser image isn’t very revealing, previous spy photos have shown styling updates will primarily be limited to the truck’s front end. However, the Triton appears to have a new rear bumper and updated taillights.

Since this is just a facelift, it’s unlikely that the model will have a significantly revised interior. However, there could be a handful of minor changes including an updated infotainment system and revised upholstery – among other things.

Engine options also remain unconfirmed, but the current model offers a handful of petrol and diesel options. In the United Kingdom, the L200 can be equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel that has outputs of 151 hp (113 kW / 154 PS) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) as well as 178 hp (133 kW / 181 PS) and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque.

There’s no word on when the updated Triton / L200 will be unveiled, but Mitsubishi is reportedly skipping the 2018 Paris Motor Show.

2019 Mitsubishi Triton facelift debuts in Thailand – updated design, new six-speed auto, improved safety

https://paultan.org/2018/11/09/2019-mit ... 8SOgoYLggU

Imagine

The 2019 Mitsubishi Triton facelift has just made its global debut here in Bangkok, Thailand, and this mid-life update of the fifth-generation pick-up truck brings quite a fair bit of change to the table.

Let’s start with the most obvious change – design. Up front, the new Triton (known as the L200 in certain markets) wears a significantly bolder look, courtesy of the new Dynamic Shield family face. The bonnet line has also been raised, which helps accentuate the sense of presence.

Also new are the slimmer bi-LED headlights with stylish LED daytime running lights. Both units are connected seamlessly to a brand new dual-bar radiator grille. Below that, the halogen fog lamps sit recessed in a protruding housing (much like the Xpander), and two thick chrome strips neatly guide the eye down and towards the side.

Completing the frontal revision is a skid plate that’s finished in satin silver, and it features a quartet of air inlets to aid aerodynamic flow. Round the side, the new Triton sits on newly-designed 16-inch wheels, and the rear end gets a swanky pair of LED tail lights.
Imagine

Inside, it gets subtle tweaks in the form of new switchgear and air-conditioning vents. In upping the feel-good factor, soft-touch plastics find their way on to the armrests, floor console and parking brake lever.

As before, two engines are being offered – entry-level variants will get the 2.5 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, tuned to produce anywhere from 107 hp and 200 Nm to 134 hp and 324 Nm of torque. Higher-spec models get the latest 4N15 2.4 litre MIVEC turbodiesel mill, producing 179 hp at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque from 2,500 rpm.

Perhaps the biggest change is the inclusion of a new six-speed automatic transmission, which is an upgrade from the existing five-speed INVECS II unit. According to Mitsubishi, the new six-speeder unit offers smoother gearshifts and more powerful acceleration, as well as improved refinement.

Imagine

All 4WD Triton models are fitted with Super-Select 4WD for optimum traction and handling characteristics on all surfaces, as well as Easy-Select 4WD. Both 4×4 systems are said to improve off-road performance. Hill descent control is also available for the first time, although this feature is limited to selected 4WD models.

The new 4WD system also features off-road drive modes, such as Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand and Rock (in 4L only). When engaged, off-road mode integrally controls engine power, transmission and braking to regulate wheel slip, thereby maximising all-terrain performance and traction levels in sticky situations.

Meanwhile, the brakes have been beefed up with larger front ventilated discs and calipers, whereas ride quality has improved thanks to larger rear dampers which contain more damping fluids.

Imagine

Now, it may be a pick-up truck, but it’s not shabby when it comes to safety either. The kit list includes forward collision mitigation, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and an ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system. The last feature helps reduce accidents which result from improper use of the accelerator when moving off or reversing in confined spaces.

Also, the top model features a multi around monitor, which offers drivers a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the car’s surroundings when needed. Front parking sensors have also been added.

The facelifted Mitsubishi Triton will be launched in Thailand on November 17, following which it will be rolled out to 150 countries around the globe. We’ve been told that the Triton is due to arrive in Malaysia within the first quarter of next year.

Ahead of that, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) will be displaying it at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS 2018) from November 23 to December 2, and it’s likely that the order books will open then as well. Alternatively, you may catch the Triton at the following locations as listed above.

MMM will also organise a special display for the new Triton in Johor Bahru at a later date. Those who are interested, click here for display locations and further information about the updated pick-up truck. Like what you see, folks?
