Un Ford Focus WRC pilotat de celebrul Colin McRae va fi scos la licitație în 23 februarie. Exemplarul a fost utilizat în 11 etape din Campionatul Mondial de Raliuri, iar specialiștii se așteaptă să fie vândut pentru cel puțin 135.000 de euro.


Există colecționari auto care sunt pasionați și de motorsport. Pentru aceștia există evenimentul Race Retro Competition Car Sale organizat de casa de licitații Silverstone Auctions. În cadrul evenimentului din 23 februarie, cei interesați pot licita pentru un Ford Focus WRC din 1999.

Exemplarul în cauză a fost pilotat de celebrul Colin McRae în patru etape din Campionatul Mondial de Raliuri (Spania, Corsica, Grecia și China).

"Roagă pe cineva să-ți spună un pilot de raliuri și vei vedea că primul nume este cel al lui Colin McRae. A fost întotodeauna iubit de fani", a declarat Adam Rutter, unul dintre specialiștii casei Silverstone Auctions.

De asemenea, exemplarul scos la licitație a mai fost pilotat și de Petter Solberg și Thomas Radstrom, iar în total a adunat 11 etape în Campionatul Mondial de Raliuri. Conform specialiștilor, prețul pe care îl vor obține în urma licitației va fi cuprins între 135.000 și 160.000 de euro.

"O astfel de mașină este foarte rară. Iar dacă iei în calcul și faptul că a fost pilotată de McRae, Solberg și Radstrom vei vedea că este un vehicul extrem de important în istoria motorsportului", a completat Rutter.

FIA Announces New Asian F3 Championship - Complete With Halo Device

The biggest change you're likely to notice on 2018's Formula One single-seaters will be the incorporation of the new “halo” cockpit safety device. But F1 won't be the only series to get it.

The latest to adopt the device is the F3 Asian Championship, just revealed by the FIA. It joins the new F3 Americas series that was just announced this past October - also incorporating the halo - as part of the FIA's new regional Formula 3 framework.

The new Asian championship has yet to reveal the suppliers for its chassis, engine, and tires. However the regulations call for a 270-horsepower turbocharged engine. The American series uses the 2.0-liter turbo four from the Honda Civic Type R in a Ligier Crawford JS chassis built by Onroak in North Carolina.

“The addition of another regional FIA Formula 3 championship will be a hugely positive step in the development of the category around the world, noted the FIA's Charlie Whiting. “Junior motor sport has been growing rapidly in Asia in recent years, with highly competitive FIA Formula 4 series in China, Japan and South East Asia giving young drivers a better opportunity than ever before to advance their skills and move up to the next level. Now with the F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA, these drivers will have a great place to compete at a regional level.”

The series is expected to draw talent from Formula 4 championships in China and South East Asia, offering a stepping stone to Formula 2. Points earned in the championship will count towards the Super License required to compete in Formula One as well.

The championship kicks off at Sepang in Malaysia for the first official test July 9-10, followed by the first three races at the same circuit. Three more each will be held at Ningbo in China and Shanghai, before returning for three more at Ningbo and Sepang to culminate in November.

Alonso va concura în Cursa de 24 de ore de la Le Mans pentru Toyota: "Este o mare provocare, dar am șanse să câștig"

Fernando Alonso va concura în acest an pentru Toyota în Campionatul Mondial de Anduranță, inclusiv în Cursa de 24 de ore de la Le Mans, pe lângă sezonul de Formula 1 cu McLaren.


Fernando Alonso a anunțat marți că în acest sezon va concura în paralel și în Campionatul Mondial de Anduranță alături de Toyota. Posibilitatea de a concura în această competiție a fost una dintre cerințele impuse de Alonso la semnarea prelungirii contractului cu McLaren pentru 2018.

Spaniolul va avea astfel un sezon 2018 extrem de încărcat: 21 de curse în Formula 1 și alte 4 etape în Anduranță. Pilotul va participa la cursele de anduranță de la Spa-Francorchamps (5 mai), Silverstone (19 august) și Shanghai (18 noiembrie), urmând să absenteze doar la cursa de la Fuji, care va avea loc în aceeași zi cu Marele Premiu al Statelor Unite.

"Nu am fost niciodată timid în privința obiectivului meu de a câștiga Tripla Coroana: Marele Premiu al statului Monaco, Cursa de 500 de mile de la Indianapolis și Cursa de 24 de ore de la Le Mans. Anul trecut am încercat Indy, am fost aproape, dar am ratat pentru puțin. În acest an am șansa de a concura și de a câștiga la Le Mans. Este o mare provocare, pentru că multe lucruri pot merge prost, dar sunt pregătit și asept lupta cu nerăbdare", a precizat el.

Anunțul vine la numai câteva zile după ce Alonso a concurat în Cursa de 24 de ore de la Daytona, în care a ocupat la un moment dat locul 6 înainte de apariția unei pene pe parcursul stintului efectuat de un coechipier și a unei probleme la frâne.

Formula E Lets Us Glimpse At Its Second-Generation Electric Racer

The FIA Formula E Championship has now officially kicked off its fourth season. And all the while, it's used the same essential chassis first revealed back in 2013. But that's about to come to an end as the electric racing series is preparing to unveil a completely new second-generation car.

The all-new Formula E racer is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March. But before it does, the organizers have released a trio of teaser images to keep fans of the series on their proverbial toes.

Two of those teaser images give us glimpses at the front- and rear-end aerodynamic elements that look far more aggressive and angular than the current ones… especially that sinister-looking rear diffuser. Looks aside, they've surely been designed in the wind-tunnel to improve the spectacle and action, whether that means more downforce or less.

More revealing, though, is the inclusion of an F1-style “halo” cockpit protection device that's quickly becoming the standard across a growing array of FIA-sanctioned open-cockpit racing series. For the new Formula E racer, it's apparently going to include embedded LED lights - though for what purpose, we don't know. Maybe they'll be used to indicate the lead car, or which driver has the benefit of the “fan boost.”

Whatever the purpose, and whatever else it has in store, we may not have to wait until Geneva to see the new car revealed. Recent social media posts accompanying these teasers suggest we could see more later today… so watch this space, race fans.

Formula E a dezvăluit designul noului monopost electric care va fi utilizat în competiție din sezonul 2018-2019, în care piloții vor putea parcurge o cursă întreagă cu același set de baterii.

Competiția de monoposturi electrice Formula E se pregătește să treacă la un nou nivel începând de la finalul acestui an, atundi când va începe sezonul 2018-2019.

Organizatorii au dezvăluit designul noului monopost, iar acesta este unul modern, corespunzător tendințelor actuale. Monopostul este dezvoltat de Spark Racing Technologies și beneficiază de asemenea de sistemul de protecție Halo, care va fi implementat și în Formula 1 și Formula 2.

Cea mai importantă schimbare de natură tehnică este legată de bateriile furnizate de McLaren. Capacitatea acestora va crește de la 28 kWh la 54 kWh, ceea ce va permite fiecărui pilot să parcurgă o cursă completă cu un singur monopost. Până în prezent, piloții intrau la boxe pentru schimbarea monopostului la jumătatea cursei, întrucât energia nu era suficientă pentru o cursă întreagă.

"Monoposturile vor fi mai rapide și își vor dubla cantitatea de energie stocată și autonomia, ceea ce demonstrează evoluția tehnologiei bateriilor", spune Alejandro Agag, CEO-ul și fondatorul Formulei 1.

Volkswagen Signs Porsche’s Le Mans Winner For Pikes Peak Assault

A few months ago, Volkswagen announced its intention to enter an all-electric racing car in the infamous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The goal will be to set a new EV record at the event this year. What it didn’t announce was who would actually drive the thing, but now it has.

Handling the wheel will be none other than Romain Dumas – a multi-talented and highly accomplished racing driver, whose name you may recognize for having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 for Porsche. But that was just his most recent achievement.

He won the FIA World Endurance Championship that same year, and took over victory at Le Mans once before, with Audi in 2010. He’s also won the Nürburgring 24-hour race four times, the 24 Hours of Spa twice, and the 12 Hours of Sebring once.

More pertinently, though, he’s won the Pikes Peak climb three times, all within the last four years. That gives him very real experience to impart on the campaign that will bring Volkswagen back to the Colorado mountain for the first time in over 30 years.

“There is one big advantage of having an electric car in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb: the power remains constant over the entire 20-kilometre route,” Dumas points out. “By contrast, vehicles fitted with combustion engines lose a significant amount of power in the thin mountain air. I had to live with that in my previous appearances here. I am really looking forward to being able to drive from the start at 2,862 metres to the finishing line at full power for the first time.”

Mattias Ekström Retires From DTM To Focus On Rallycross

Mattias Ekström announced his retirement from the German DTM championship, after 17 years, 195 races, 23 victories and two titles.

The DTM driver is retiring from the Touring Car championship in order to concentrate on his World Rallycross Championship effort.

Ekström is Audi’s most successful DTM driver to date, with 26-year-old Robin Frijns taking his spot at the company’s factory team.

“This was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make,” says Ekström. “The DTM was my life for a long time and my heart will always continue to beat for the DTM in the future too.”

“However, I’ve also invested a lot of time and energy in my rallycross team in recent years”, he added. “Without the dual program I’m now able to fully concentrate on one series again and have more freedom again for my family and my children. I’ll continue to compete for my own team and am clearing the way in the DTM for a promising youngster.”

Ekström has been competing in the World Rallycross Championship with his own, factory-backed EKS team, alongside DTM since 2014. In his third year in Rallycross, he managed to secure the world championship title.

“Mattias informed us early of his wish to contest only one series in the 2018 season,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass. “Obviously, Mattias is extremely valuable and important for both projects. That’s why this decision was not an easy one for either of us.”

Hyundai i30 N TCR Race Car Debuts In Chicago

The Hyundai i30 N has landed in America in the form of the i30 N TCR race car.

Currently on display at the Chicago Auto Show, the car will compete in the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car Racing (TCR) class. Two cars will be fielded by Bryan Herta Autosport and they will enter competition on March 23rd at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Given its racing focus, the i30 N has been equipped with a widebody kit, a ventilated hood, and a prominent front splitter. The car also has a new rear bumper, a massive wing, and 18-inch Braid wheels.

The interior has been stripped of all non-essential equipment and replaced by a steel roll cage and Sabelt racing seats with six-point harnesses. The model also has a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a Lifeline fire extinguisher system.

Power is provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine which has been equipped with a BMC air induction kit and a Life Racing ECU. It produces 350 hp (261 kW) and is connected to a six-speed sequential transmission which has a multi-disc motorsport clutch.

To keep things under control, the car has adjustable dampers and a high-performance braking system. The latter has six-piston front monobloc calipers with 15-inch ventilated brake discs and two-piston rear monobloc calipers with 10.9-inch ventilated discs.

The cars will be driven by Michael Lewis and Mark Wilkens and Hyundai Motor America chief marketing officer, Dean Evans, said the company is “thrilled about the prospects for our new N branded racing team competing in the Touring Car Racing class of Pirelli World Challenge.”

Fernando Alonso a comparat accelerația prototipului Toyota pentru Le Mans cu cea a unei rachete, după ce a efectuat un prim test înainte de participarea în Campionatul Mondial de Anduranță.


Fernando Alonso a anunțat la sfârșitul lunii ianuarie că va participa în sezonul 2018-2019 al Campionatului Mondial de Anduranță, urmând să lipsească doar de la etapa de la Fuji, care se va desfășura simultan cu Marele Premiu de Formula 1 al Statelor Unite.

Pilotul spaniol a efectuat în această săptămână un prim test cu prototipul Toyota TS050-Hybrid pe circuitul Aragon din Spania. La capătul unei sesiuni desfășurate pe parcursul a trei zile, Alonso a comparat accelerația prototipului cu cea a unei rachete, inspirat probabil și de lansarea rachetei Falcon Heavy din această săptămână.

"Prototipul este incredibil, această mașină reprezintă ceva special. Tracțiunea integrală, împreună cu surplusul de putere oferit de sistemul hibrid, face ca accelerația să fie ca cea a unei rachete. Ieși din viraje și simți compresia asupra scaunului. Orice pilot de curse ar trebui să aibă parte măcar o dată de o astfel de experiență", a declarat el.

Alonso a început deja activitatea competițională în acest an după ce a participat la Cursa de 24 de ore de la Daytona. Programul pilotului include 21 de curse de Formula 1 și 4 în Campionatul Mondial de Anduranța, inclusiv Cursa de 24 de ore de la Le Mans. În plus, etapa de anduranță de la Fuji ar putea fi mutată pentru a-i permite pilotului spaniol să participe.
