Senna’s Toleman-Hart TG184 For Sale In Monaco 34 Years After Controversial Race

No driver has ever won the Monaco Grand Prix as many times as Ayrton Senna did, even 18 years now since his untimely demise. But one of his most famous drives in the headline event came when he narrowly missed taking the checkered flag in the car you see here.

This is the Toleman-Hart TG184 that Senna drove in the Monte Carlo race for the first time in 1984. And it was a controversial race, to say the least.

Beset by heavy rain, the young Brazilian rookie was closing in fast on Alain Prost, shaving three seconds off the Frenchman’s lead each lap. It was a precipitous start to what would become a legendary rivalry. But with only 31 out of 76 laps completed, race director Jacky Ickx (himself a former F1 driver) called the race early, with Prost still in the lead.

Prost slowed down in celebrating before the finish line, letting Senna by in the belief that he had won. But the results had already been tabulated, and Prost was awarded the win. Both Senna and Prost would go on to win the race several times each – the Frenchman an impressive four times in all, Senna a record six.

Even if the race had been allowed to continue, young Ayrton may not have made it to the finish on the heavily damaged suspension. Regardless of the outcome, the car’s long since been restored to its former glory, and is now up for grabs – and not for the first time, either. But this time, it’s going up for auction in Monaco where its place in history was cemented 34 years prior, and where Bonhams will sell it off to the highest bidder this coming May 11.

“The Senna-Prost joust of the late 1980s and early 1990s was one of the greatest sporting rivalries of all time, with two great champions providing F1 fans with some of the most eye-popping and spectacular racing ever witnessed,” notes Bonhams’ motorsport expert Mark Osborne. “We at Bonhams are delighted to present the very car – the 1984 Toleman-Hart TG184 – that triggered this great rivalry, and which provided the opening chapter for Ayrton Senna’s remarkable and record-breaking story at the Monaco Grand Prix.”

Campionul DTM, câștigătorii din clasificările echipelor și ale producătorilor, șoferii Audi de pe primele patru locuri: în 2017, Audi Sport a încheiat sezonul cu cele mai de succes rezultate dintre toate perioadele.

n testele de la Vallelunga, Italia, noul Audi RS 5 DTM și-a făcut prima apariție publică. Odată cu dezvoltarea mașinii câștigătoare de campionat, se pregătește începerea sezonului 2018 și, pe 5 și 6 mai, va începe și proiectul Hockenheimring de "apărare a titlului".

Anul acesta, piloții de la DTM vor ocupa locul central al scenei la un eveniment mai mare decât precedentul. Anterior, în 2017, motoarele mai puternice și cauciucurile mai moi au făcut cursa mai palpitantă. Acum, forța aerodinamică a mașinilor de curse participante la DTM cu mai mult de 500 de cai putere a fost redusă cu aproximativ 25% în comparație cu anul trecut, iar suspensia a fost simplificată.

Pe fiecare roată, regulamentul permite acum o singură unitate de amortizare. Așa-numitul "al treilea element," o conexiune între cele două roți și un ax, nu se mai folosește. Obiectivul este de a aduce terenul și mai aproape decât înainte.

Primele teste dinaintea sezonului cu ultima generație Audi RS 5 DTM (numele intern al proiectului: RC7) au fost făcute de Jamie Green (GB) și René Rast (D).

Mercedes-AMG GT R este noul Safety Car din Formula 1. Modelul brandului din Affalterbach are 585 de cai putere și promite o viteză maximă de 318 km/h. Noul sezon de Formula 1 începe în 25 martie cu Marele Premiu al Australiei.


Mercedes-AMG a prezentat oficial Safety Car-ul care va fi folosit în noul sezon de Formula 1, competiție care debutează la finalul acestei săptămâni. Vorbim despre un Mercedes-AMG GT R care a fost echipat cu accesorii speciale pentru a face față rolului de Safety Car și care, înlocuiește vechiul AMG GT S (2015 - 2017).

Mașinile brandului din Affalterbach "conduc" plutonul de monoposturi încă din 1996, colaborarea nemților cu organizatorii Formulei 1 fiind la al 23-lea sezon. Mercedes-AMG GT R Safety Car folosește elemente preluate de pe versiunea de circuit AMG GT3, iar sub capotă se află motorul V8 de 4.0 litri biturbo.

Propulsorul dezvoltă 585 de cai putere, iar modelul producătorului german este capabil să ruleze cu maximum 318 km/h. La bordul lui AMG GT R Safety Car se vor afla Bernd Maylander și Richard Darker.

Alături de noul AMG GT R Safety Car, brandul din Affalterbach va oferi și un Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate cu rol de mașină medicală. Aceasta din urmă va fi pilotată de Alan van der Merwe.

Volkswagen a prezentat noul Polo R Supercar. Modelul destinat Campionatului Mondial de Rallycross (WRX) oferă 570 de cai putere și are tracțiune integrală. Noul sezon WRX debutează în 14 aprilie în Barcelona.


Campionatul Mondial de Rallycross (WRX) este tot mai aproape de debut, iar echipele și constructorii implicați au început să prezinte noutățile pregătite pentru sezonul 2018. Volkswagen Motorsport și-a unit forțele cu echipa PSRX Volkswagen Sweden și aduc la startul sezonului un Polo R Supercar modificat conform regulamentelor FIA.

Modelul dedicat Campionatului Mondial de Rallycross oferă 570 de cai putere și dispune de un sistem de tracțiune integrală. Nemții vin cu o serie de modificări de caroserie menite să ajute și mai mult răcirea motorului în timpul cursei. În același timp, inginerii au proiectat o aripă spate nouă care acum oferă mai multe setări.

În 2017, PSRX Volkswagen Sweden a câștigat titlul pe echipe, în timp ce pilotul Johan Kristoffersson a devenit campion concurând cu un Polo R Supercar. Așa cum era de așteptat, echipa nu schimbă formula câștigătoare. În 2018, vom vedea la start două exemplare Polo R Supercar pilotate de Johan Kristoffersson și de Petter Solberg.

Campionatul Mondial de Rallycross debutează în 14 aprilie la Barcelona. În acest sezon sunt programate 12 runde, iar calendarul include o cursă în Austin, SUA, dar și o etapă pe SIlverstone, Marea Britanie (o versiune modificată a circuitului).

Juan Pablo Montoya Heading To Le Mans With United Autosports

Juan Pablo Montoya has won the Monaco Grand Prix. He’s won two NASCAR Cup races, the Indianapolis 500 (twice), and the 24 Hours of Daytona three times. He even won the Race of Champions last year. So what’s next for the Colombian driver?

The 24 Hours of Le Mans, that’s what. United Autosports has just announced the highly accomplished driver for its lineup this year. This in addition to his drive with Acura Team Penske in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

He’ll be sharing the team’s #32 Ligier JS P217 with Will Owen and Huge de Sadeleer upon his debut in the famous French endurance race. But they won’t be competing in the top class: instead they’ll be challenging for victory in the LMP2 category.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to experience Le Mans and I’m looking forward to joining United Autosports after they had such a strong finish at Le Mans last year. I’ve always watched the race so I’m very happy to finally be part of it. Hopefully we can have a shot at a win.”

The team is part-owned by McLaren chief Zak Brown, who added: “Juan Pablo has been around racing for a long time now and he knows what it takes to win. I’m sure he will bring experience and speed to the team, which is exactly what we need for such a demanding race as Le Mans.”

If they do manage to overcome the top-tier entries, Montoya would become the only living driver to secure the elusive Triple Crown of Motorsport, adding to his Indy and Monaco trophies. It’s an achievement that Jacques Villeneuve just barely missed when he finished second at Le Mans with Peugeot in 2008, just behind the winning Audi.

To date, only Graham Hill has won the unofficial accolade, but he died in a plane crash in 1975. Montoya won’t be the only driver pursuing the honor at this year’s race, though. Two-time F1 champ Fernando Alonso will be driving Toyota’s LMP1 hybrid in the race this year, pursuing the second part of the triple crown while he entertains the prospect of racing at Indy again.

Watch Guerlain Chicherit Rallycross His New Renault Megane RX

You remember Guerlain Chicherit, don’t you? He’s the competitive skier turned rally driver who backflipped a Mini a few years back. Well, this is his new ride.

It’s a Renault Megane RS, but it’s not been prepared by Renaultsport. Instead, it’s been developed by the motorsport consultants at Prodrive specifically for rallycross racing.

Apparently Chicherit and Prodrive weren’t ready to show the final design to the public just yet, though. So when it came time for the test at Silverstone, they wrapped it in camouflage – a rather eye-seering orange, black, and white combo, at that.

Did that stop the Frenchman from giving it his all? Hardly, as you can see from the videos below. But we’ll have to wait a little longer to see the rally machine unveiled in full.

After that, it’ll be up to Chicherit and his teammate, and fellow Frenchman, Jérôme Grosset-Janin to make the most of their new ride in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Neither has won a world rallycross event to date, but Grosset-Janin did win a European championship round in a Peugeot a few years back.

They’ll have some stiff competition this season. Petter Solberg is back with a new Volkswagen Polo R, Mattias Ekström has an upgraded Audi S1, the Grönholms are bringing a new Hyundai i20 and WRC all-time record man Sebastian Loeb will be competing in a Peugeot 208. And those are but a few of the 18 Supercar entries lined up for this season, which kicks off at Catalunya in just a couple of weeks.

TVR Partners With Rebellion Racing For Le Mans And WEC

Not long after publishing and swiftly deleting a teaser image of its racing return, British automaker TVR has just announced its partnership with Rebellion Racing for the Le Mans 24 Hours and FIA World Endurance Championship.

TVR will act as the main automotive partner for Rebellion Racing with the firm’s logo incorporated into the red and black livery of the two Oreca R-13 LMP prototypes run by the team. This is TVR’s first official motorsport project in 13 years and comes on the back of the revived company launching the Griffith sports car.

The carmaker asserts that its relationship with Rebellion Racing will “flow directly into the development and production both of its road car line-up, and into its future racing projects.”

“When we resurrected the TVR brand, we knew that we wanted to achieve a return to the race track,” said TVR chairman Les Edgar.

“Our partnership with REBELLION Racing allows us to achieve that goal, while bringing about valuable operational and technical knowledge, which directly transfers to our road car operation and future racing activities.”

TVR joins Gibson race engines, Motul lubricants, and Carbon Champagne as Rebellion Racing partners for the 2018-2019 Super Season. The TVR-sponsored Oreca will make its track debut at the WEC Prologue event at Circuit Paul Ricard on April 6.

Porsche 911 Turbo Safety Car Introduced For World Endurance Championship

Formula One has a new Mercedes-AMG GT R Safety Car and now the World Endurance Championship has revealed its own new safety car, a modified Porsche 911 Turbo.

The Porsche will act as the official Safety Car until 2020 and wears a matte black livery with red accents and the WEC logo. The sports car has also been fitted with a light bar on the roof, flashing lights at the front and rear, and all the radio equipment required for a Safety Car. Racing seats with six-point harnesses have also been fitted, as has a monitor to display track signals.

Porsche says that the two 911 Turbo Safety Cars it will fly around the world throughout the World Endurance Championship also benefit from brakes and suspension optimized for long periods on the racetrack.

The automaker’s work with the World Endurance Championship doesn’t stop there. Porsche has also created 11 other intervention vehicles for safety personnel and medics to use.

At the rear, the 911 Turbo Safety Car retains the road-going model’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine with the Sport Chrono package. All up, it muscles out 540 hp and 524 lb-ft of torque, allowing the car to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in three seconds and on to a 199 mph (320 km/h) top speed.

This year’s World Endurance Championship commences at Spa-Francorchamps on May 5.
