Mercedes-Benz has issued four recall campaigns in the United States all at once, covering a wide array of vehicles for issues ranging from door locks to headlights.

The largest among them covers an estimated 8,700 vehicles from the GLE, GLS, and S-Class ranges - including AMG models and even the Maybach S600 - all 2017 and 2018 models.

They're being recalled for a problem with the latches on their left-rear passenger doors, which may not lock properly. Each will have to be inspected by a local technician and potentially have those lock mechanisms replaced.

The next largest recall affects 8,134 examples of the GLC, which simply need to have their headlights checked and possibly readjusted. Another 432 examples of the G550 (including the 4x4²) whose power brakes may not be working properly. Finally ten examples of the AMG GT equipped with the optional AMG Performance Seats will need to either have software for their passenger airbags updated or the passenger seat cushion replaced.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, all four campaigns will kick off this month, though the parts for the G-Class and AMG GT are expected to take another month or two to arrive before they can be fitted.

Takata added another 3.3 million airbag inflators to the continuously expanding recall, making it the largest of its kind in the United States of America.

According to a report published by DetroitFreePress, the latest action revolves around the faulty frontal airbags in certain 2009, 2010, and 2013 vehicles made by a variety of car brands.

The list of automakers includes Audi, BMW, Daimler Vans, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Tesla. The exact models will be announced later this month, in the paperwork submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Takata's faulty airbag inflators include ammonium nitrate, a chemical used to create a small explosion that fills the airbags quickly in the event of a crash. However, it's known that when exposed to high temperatures and humidity, the chemical deteriorates, causing the metal canister to blow apart and spreading shrapnel into the cabin.

So far, at least 180 people have been injured by the metal bits worldwide, and more than 20 have lost their lives.

The NHTSA continues to monitor the automakers' repairs progress, but even though Takata recalls originally began back in 2001, many companies have been slow to replace the airbag inflators.

A report published by an independent monitor, quoted by DetroitFreePress, states that 43.1 million inflators had been recalled until September 15, 2017, out of which only 18.5 million had been replaced, which accounts for 43 percent.

Audi va trebui să cheme în service un număr de 127.000 de mașini, după ce autoritățile germane au descoperit că mai multe modele ale constructorului au folosit un soft de păcălire a emisiilor de oxid de azot.


Scandalul Dieselgate este departe de încheiere pentru grupul Volkswagen, iar nemții parcă nu vor nici în ruptul capului să învețe din greșelile trecutului.

După bănuielile apărute la sfârșitul anului trecut, Autoritatea Federală de Transport (KBA) a confirmat acum pentru presa germană că Audi a folosit un soft illegal pentru manipularea emisiilor la o serie de modele Euro 6.

Prin urmare, KBA a ordonat celor de la Audi să cheme în service 127.000 de unități, dintre care 77.600 doar în Germania. Afectate de recall sunt modelele A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, precum și Q5 și Q7.

Autoritatea germană a descoperit că sistemul de păcălire a emisiilor era activat în timpul testelor, fiind apoi oprit în traficul real. Potrivit presei, KBA a amenințat Audi cu retragerea “licenței de funcționare” pentru cea mai nouă generație A8.

În schimb, Audi a anunțat că acest soft cu probleme va fi “complet revizuit, testat și trimis înapoi la KBA pentru aprobare”.

În urmă cu circa două luni, cei de la Audi vorbeau despre un recall de circa 5.000 de unități A8 comercializate în Europa, după ce au descoperit că acele vehicule depășeau normele de emisii pentru oxidul de azot.

Aston Martin a anunțat un recall pentru toate modelele DB11, după ce unele piese furnizate de Daimler ar putea duce la declanșarea neintenționată a airbagurilor.


Peste un milion de mașini Mercedes-Benz au fost afectate anul trecut de un recall cerut de Daimler, după ce grupul german a anunțat că unele piese folosite la coloana de direcție ar putea pune în pericol șoferii prin declanșarea “din greșeală” a airbagurilor.

Acele piese au fost folosite și de japonezii de Infiniti, care au trebuit să cheme la verificări un număr 17.500 de vehicule.

Ultimul producător afectat de piesele cu probleme de la Daimler este Aston Martin, britanicii fiind nevoiți să aducă în service toate cele 3.873 de modele DB11, a căror producție a început în 2015. Recall-ul a fost confirmat de un oficial Aston Martin pentru agenția Reuters.

Nemții au pus această problemă pe seama unor cabluri electrice care erau vulnerabile la un scurtcircuit, iar asta ar fi dus la declanșarea airbagurilor.

Mercedes a raportat câteva incidente în care șoferii mașinilor sale au suferit răni ușoare sau zgârieturi. În schimb, cei de la Aston Martin au fost feriți de astfel de neplăceri.
